This first year we are awarding 2 grants totaling $3000.

2011 grants

• Town Dept: Norwell Police Dept – Laptop computer
• Non-profit: Cancer Support Community MA South Shore – programs

The Norwell Police Department will be purchasing a new laptop computer; it will be replacing an existing one that does not meet the requirements of new software that is in conjunction with the regionalization of the Dispatch Center. They will now be able to conduct investigations when mobile, and utilize the DVD recordable multiburner to copy surveillance video, and use it to give presentations.

Cancer Support Community MA South Shore is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing, at no cost to participants, emotional support and educational programs to people with cancer and their caregivers. Their professionally led programs have been developed to allow participants to come together in a warm, home-like environment as they learn they are not alone in their journey. Armed with relevant information, emotional support, and hope, they become able to apply a pro-active approach to their treatment and to their lives. Our grant will assist them in establishing a Breast Cancer Support Group, look for it by the end of 2011.

The Norwell Chamber is proud to announce Snow and Jones as the 2011 Business Excellence award winner.

Snow and Jones is a third generation family owned business , serving the community since 1952.  Snow and Jones has always been active in the community and an integral part of the Norwell business community. A majority of Snow and Jones employees have been with Snow and Jones for over 10 years.  We employ local people in 9 branches over the South Shore and Cape Cod.

Despite the tough economy, in winter/spring 2011, Snow and Jones embarked on a major remodel of our kitchen and bath showroom.  A major part of this remodel was ensuring that we supported local businesses, and used the services of RHC Contracting of Hanover, Bellew Tile of Rockland, Prefettio Electric of Rockland, Circa Home Furnishings of Norwell, Image Resolutions of Norwell, and Marsh Liquors of Norwell during our construction and openings.

Snow and Jones is a premier sponsor of the Norwell Science Center Earth Day, and sponsors a Norwell girls softball team.

4rd Annual Taste of Norwell – offering samplings from local restaurants & information on local businesses.

This community-wide event will be held at The Cushing Center, 673 Main Street Norwell. Proceeds from this event will benefit their High School Scholarship Fund, the Norwell Food Pantry, Norwell Chamber Business, and Community Grants Program.

There will be a cash bar. This community-wide event is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
