In honor of John Galvin’s unwavering commitment and dedication, the Norwell Chamber of Commerce will honor John as “Citizen of the Year.” for 2008.
Donna Cunio, a good friend of John summarizes his accomplishments:
The following information is more than likely incomplete when you are speaking about John Galvin and his service to the community and the outside world. John is a person who seems to be everywhere, never ruffled; never tired although I know how many hours he flies for his job! John is never too busy to help.
John was involved for a number of years with the Girls Softball Team from Norwell High; he could not live down his Frankenstein days with the VNA Haunted House; Co-founder of the South Shore Habitat for Humanity (over 25 years ago) a past President for three years and continues to be active involved giving his time as both a Director as well as “hands on” whenever asked to do just about everything and anything. He is an active member of Habitat El Salvador and has not only organized but been a part of five trips to New Orleans. John is a past Scout Master of Troop 78, Norwell and still sits on the Board of Reviews for Eagle Scouts.
John is a deacon at the United Church of Christ, Chairman of the Sound Room (this allows shut and hearing impaired people to receive tapes or hearing aids during the services), Member of the Music Ministry Tea, teaches church school and is the videographer for all UCC Christmas Concerts or anything else that needs taping!
